Follow these instructions and installation of your Arrowjoint Expansion Joints will be simple and quick.
| |
| |
Measure your expansion joints to ensure a proper fit. They must be between 5/8 inch and 1 inch in width.
| |
| |
Measure the length of all the expansion joints. Arrowjoint is sold in 10' sections but it is packaged in up to 50' continuous length. Ordering 120' will yield 2 50' rolls and a 20' section.
| |
| |
Remove the old expansion joint materials using a pickaxe or a small chipping hammer.
| |
| |
Remove all the organic material that may rot further and cause a void under the Arrowjoint later.
| |
| |
Remove 2 inches minimum of debris from the expansion joint if there is no organic material remaining.
| |
| |
Nails can be removed by using the spade portion of the pickaxe and striking the back with a hammer.
| |
| |
Pour sand into the void up to 1 1/4 inches from the top. Compact the sand so you have a nice base for the Arrowjoint to reside upon. Fill any voids that may arise as you pour the sand into the joint.
| |
| |
Place the Arrowjoint flat side up and point into the expansion joint. Line the end of the Arrowjoint up with the end of the expansion joint. Use a deadblow hammer to install the Arrowjoint. Never pull on the Arrowjoint as it will stretch on install then constrict later back to original length.
| |
| |
Continue pounding the Arrowjoint in untill you reach the last foot of the expansion joint. Then take a pair of pipe cutters, pruning shears or a razor knife to cut the Arrowjoint to match the end of the expansion joint.
| |
| |
Finish pounding the last foot of Arrowjoint. Place sand or polymeric sand in any voids between the Arrowjoint and the concrete that may be remaining. Enjoy the new look.
